Local attractions & points of interest

Linked by the beautiful River Thames and crowned by the stunning Windsor Castle, the largest and oldest inhabited castle in the world and The Queen's favourite weekend home, the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has a rich mix of history, culture, heritage and fun which makes it one of South East England’s loveliest destinations.

You won’t be bored of things to do and places to explore in the local area, with its location boasting many attractions that make for the perfect day out, all within the beautiful borough. Aside from Windsor Castle, attracting both residents and visits from overseas all year round, the Berkshire countryside is home to two of the most prestigious racecourses in the UK, Windsor Racecourse popular for its Monday evening events and themed race days and Ascot Racecourse, home to the Royal Ascot held every June. Sporting events fill the diaries of many Royal Borough locals, with the annual Henley Royal Regatta taking place only a short car journey from the market town of Maidenhead.

If you’re looking to move to the area with a young family and theme parks are more your thing, then you’ll be well placed for trips out to the awesome rides and attractions Legoland has to offer, situated only a stone's throw from Windsor Town Centre.

Nature spots

Rural Berkshire can be found only a matter of miles from the urban areas, with picturesque villages just minutes from the towns of Maidenhead, Windsor and Ascot. Unsurprisingly, the area is also home to an abundance of scenic nature spots, for keen outdoor enthusiasts or those looking to relax and unwind in the beautiful Berkshire parks and gardens, including The Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park and the National Trusts gardens at Cliveden, near Maidenhead.

Shopping & dining

Shopping in itself is a reason to come to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. From well-known retailers, designer labels and pedestrian only shopping centres in Windsor and Maidenhead, to independent shops and boutiques in surrounding Cookham, Marlow & Bourne End. You’ll be spoilt for choice if retail therapy is top of your agenda!

And we’re a very tasty destination too! Choose from a wide range of great restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs. The borough is even home to some renowned Michelin-starred restaurants, perfect for special occasions or those seeking a unique culinary experience.

Education

With an excellent range of state and private schools, it’s no wonder many families move to the area specifically for the outstanding choice of schools for all ages, from nurseries and junior schools, to senior schools and agricultural colleges, and not forgetting one of Britain's most famous and prestigious public schools for boys, Eton College.

Transport

The area is an extremely popular area to live, not only due to its rich offering, but also due to its geographical location ideally located on the M4 / M40/ M25 corridor with access into London and Heathrow airport. The Crossrail project currently underway, will soon provide a fast service directly into London Paddington for those commuting daily into the capital for work, or weekend pleasure trips!
