Stepping foot into your new home for the first time is one of the most memorable things you'll ever do. Moving house often comes at an important life stage whether that is the prospect of a growing family, relocating with a job or downsizing after the kids have flown the nest. Our Purplebricks team wanted to capture the emotion and to get under the skin of what it's really like to move house in Britain; so they enlisted the support of acclaimed photographer Ben Stevens to photograph real Purplebricks customers from across the length and breadth of the UK on their moving days.
The photo documentary project kicked off earlier this year and includes seven families from as far north as Nottinghamshire down to Somerset in the South of the UK. The key task for photographer Ben was to capture in reportage style the entire moving experience on moving in day. This entailed photographing the families as they packed up their belongings and said goodbye to their old homes and following them into their new homes as they unloaded the removal vans and stepped across the threshold for the very first time.
There were many magical moments captured throughout the project, which included several bedroom aeroplanes and carpet angels as children explored their new bedrooms for the very first time; a special reunion in Warwickshire between a young boy and his teddy, which had been in storage for 2 months as the family moved between one house and another; and a lot of cardboard boxes!
