7 bedroom detached houseLeighton, Welshpool, SY21 8HJ

£595,000

18th Century Grade II listed house sitting on an approximately 5 acre plot complete with woodland, gardens, an orchard and a pool. The property is located in the popular village of Leighton, on the outskirts of Welshpool and 13 miles from Shrewsbury. Originally a stone cottage, the property was extended with a brick built wing in the late 18th Century, forming a substantial double-pile house. Further alterations in the 19th Century included the roof being raised and the installation of iron-framed and eventually sash windows. The latter improvements were connected with John Naylor's ownership of the Leighton Estate. Naylor, a renowned banker from Liverpool, set about on an ambitious plan in the mid 1850's to improve many of the buildings throughout the estate, and continued until his death in 1889. His grandson Captain J.M.Naylor eventually sold the estate in 1931. The property comprises 7 bedrooms, two en-suites and two family bathrooms, a large kitchen/breakfast room with an attached utility, three reception rooms and a sizable cellar. Other connected outbuildings include two garages and a workshop attached to the utility. The property retains many original features and characteristics including quarry tile floors, open fireplaces, exposed ceiling beams original sash windows. Recent improvements include the attic conversion, completed in 2012, creating two additional rooms and a bathroom. At the same time, the gravity fed water system was removed and a pressurised system added including a new water tank and oil fired Worcester boiler, kept in the cellar.
